Vitamin D From the Sun

Today promises some sunshine.  For those of you off to the office a few minutes in the sun at lunch time may boost your vitamin D levels. According to my calculations, the angle of the sun in relation to London GB is above 50 degrees between 11.40 and 14.45. If the angle of the sun is below 50 degrees the atmosphere filters out the UVB rays that are responsible for manufacturing vitamin D, so we are unable to get any benefit. So Lunch time is perfect for vitamin D boosting sunshine. Find somewhere to sit outside with your packed lunch!

Use the link for the Sun Altitude/Azimuth table to check the time frame for vitamin D production http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/AltAz.php. I put London as 0 degrees, 5 minutes West, and 51 degrees 32 minutes North.  I also put 1 hour East in order to allow for British Summer Time.
