Many women suffer with cystitis at one time or another. With any urinary tract infection you should seek advice from your GP, but if you find that cystitis is recuring there are some nutritional steps you can take to support the health of your urinary tract.
- Avoiding coffee and tea. For many women this change can bring relief.
- Reducing sugar consumption and avoiding alcohol may be helpful.
If you are suffering with a cystitis attack try making home-made barley water by boiling 1 g of wholegrain barley with 1 litre of water and simmer for 30 minutes. Cool, strain and sip through the day to help soothe symptoms.
It may be that if infections continue to recur your immune system could do with some extra support nutritionally or your diet needs to be examined more closely to see if there are any specific triggers or underlying issues. Contact me if you want to know more.
